Raul is originally from Houston, TX but he and his wife have been calling San Antonio home since 2012. Raul spends his days as the primary caretaker to their two daughters.

Raul’s work is often inspired by being a stay-at-home father, work, challenging stereotypes, painting, and beauty. Raul’s foundations in drawing, painting, and self-taught dancing have allowed him to create a world of narrative, symbolism, and color.

Raul is currently working with San Antonio’s The DoSeum where he will install an art installation that aims to teach children how color and music can affect how individuals paint or express themselves visually. He also has a 2-person exhibition opening in June at Presa House Gallery in San Antonio. Additionally, Raul recently was awarded a National Association of Latino Arts & Culture (NALAC) San Antonio Artist Grant. With this grant, Raul will be creating 30-40 new drawing and paintings that serve to re-characterize the working class immigrant, redefine the role of the father, and destroy the stereotype of the bearded brown-skinned man. This body work which will be accompanied by performances will be shown at grayDUCK Gallery in Austin,TX beginning November 3 through December 3. The work will travel back to San Antonio where it will be exhibited mid-December through January 2018 at a space to be named soon.
